Blown Away.

Bill Wray has an official, nifty-o website! While there isn't a whole lot to look at yet, what is there is beautiful. Thanks to the Shane Glines message board.

More Darwyn Cooke

Over at Comic Book Resources, a very lengthy interview with Shane Glines regular, Daryn Cooke. Cooke doesn't have a lot of press out there just yet so this is a real treat. Though he's been called a "veteran", that probably applies more to art in general or animation than it does comic book work. His comics have been mainly small runs (Catwoman), graphic novels (Batman-Ego, Selina's Big Score) or stand alone issues (Spider-Man Tangled Web, X-Force). In 2003, he'll be unleashing a 380 page epic set during the beginning of the Silver Age, which not only includes the usual suspects, but also such forgotten greats as The Challs and the Suicide Squad. Go for the rant against "mature" old-time superheroes, stay for the sample pics!

Franglais!

Remember way back when I promised to look into my new home's comics scene? Well, that was mostly for my own benefit, and though I've found a few interesting things, I can't post it with authority. Wait no more! Over on the Comics Journal message board a quick query about Montreal comics haas yielded a treasure trove of links to various artists, courtesy of Salgood Sam. While we're on the topic, Sam has also updated his own site and it's always worth checking out. I'm going to be in Montreal all this week, and it's nice to know where to go and who's work to look out for.

Giving it back to Willie and Joe.

Such is the nature of comics that sleazy gimmicks garner all the attention while a living legend suffers misfortune with barely a word said. I did not even know that Bill Mauldin had been hurt in a fire, or that he was in a bad way. That bothers and saddens me. I found out through Journalista that Mauldin is cheered up by cards and letters from World War II veterans. You can find a link to the story, samples of his work if you're not familiar, and an address for you to send your well wishes at the link. Please do. I'm sure he would appreciate correspondence from any generation.
